Join us to hear Marc Freedman, Founder of Civic Ventures - a national think tank and incubator designed to help society achieve the greatest return on experience - discuss a national perspective on capitalizing on the experience dividend. Learn about current national and statewide trends in civic engagement and how your community can attract older volunteers to purposeful jobs. Find out more about programs in several Arizona communities that are taking unique approaches to capitalizing on the experience of our aging population.

    BUSTING THE MYTH: Becoming a Full Partner in Your Own Health Care
    Offered By: Arizona Center on Aging, University of Arizona

      Everyone can learn how to make a positive difference in their health by learning how to become a full partner with their health care providers. This session will provide tools that will assist attendees to: 1) Better communicate with and understand physicians and other health care providers, 2) Be aware of the pitfalls in medication management, 3) Be proactive in self-care.

    FALLS PREVENTION: A National Concern with Local Prevention & Solutions
    Offered By: The Virginia G. Piper Charitable Trust

      Falls are an inevitable part of aging...NOT! Hear how this myth just isn't so. For older adults, a simple fall often results in serious consequences and life-altering outcomes. The costs associated with falls range from medical to emotional. This pre-conference intensive will provide an overview of a national falls prevention action plan formed by the National Council on Aging, the Archstone Foundation, the Home Safety Council, and the National Safety Council. Hear about the importance of medication education in falls prevention, and collaborative steps being taken at the local level in Tucson to address concerns and establish a community-wide falls prevention program.
